Scotch & Soda opens flagships in London, Copenhagen
Scotch & Soda has continued its major store opening programme and in recent weeks has opened two new spaces in London and one in Copenhagen.
Of the London stores, the new one on Long Acre in Covent Garden is a flagship, as is the Copenhagen shop on Amagertorv. The other London store is in Old Spitalfields Market.
The openings are part of the 31 stores the brand has opened globally this year.
CEO Frederick Lukoff called the cities “two of the world’s most attractive fashion retail destinations” and said the openings “represent an important milestone for our brand”.
The 250 sq m Covent Garden location is on the ground floor of a five-storey building, the flagship features a façade in “Eclectic neo–Flemish Renaissance style, crowned by a traditional Dutch gable, evoking the architecture of Amsterdam”.
Prior to Scotch & Soda, the building was home to Stanfords, the map and travel book specialist, for over 120 years, and it still bears the historic ‘Stanfords’ name. The interior is based on the Dutch brand’s new ‘Free Spirit’ store design concept, including its signature bar, “designed to highlight accessories and enhance conviviality”.
It also has a dedicated kids’ area as well as a library displaying a selection of books and maps curated together with Stanfords, to celebrate the heritage of the building.
As well as collections for men, women and kids, plus accessories, footwear, eyewear, and beauty, it will also carry the soon- to-be launched bodywear line.
The Spitalfields store has a red-brick façade and redesigned interiors across two floors. The 121 sq m location will offer the brand’s menswear and womenswear collections, as well as its accessory lines, including footwear, eyewear, beauty and bodywear.
The brand now has four physical stores in the UK.
It’s also ramping up its presence in the Nordic countries with its debut in Amagertorv, one of the oldest squares in central Copenhagen and part of the Strøget pedestrian zone.
Carrying the full brand offer, it has a sales area of 370 sq m across two floors, so is one of the largest European Scotch & Soda stores outside of the Netherlands. It’s the brand’s second store in Copenhagen.
As mentioned, the label has opened 31 stores globally this year, including Milan in Italy; Rosendaal in the Netherlands; Lyon, Rennes, Rouen, Sainte-Maxime, Pau and Besançon in France; Frankfurt, Cologne and Augsburg in Germany; Vienna in Austria; and Malmö in Sweden.
In the US, it has debuted in key cities Washington DC, Boston, Detroit, Scottsdale, Atlanta and San Antonio.
And it has opened in Shanghai and Beijing in China, Johannesburg in South Africa, Riyadh in Saudi Arabia, Tel Aviv in Israel, and the United Arab Emirates via the opening earlier this month of the brand’s fifth store Dubai, in the Mall of the Emirates.
