Kristen Stewart arrived at The Metropolitan Museum of Art for the 2023 Met Gala on Monday, May 1, dripping in Chanel, but of course she would. The actor has long been a brand ambassador for the luxury fashion house and regularly wears it on red carpets—often with a cheeky twist, as when she paired a classic tweed suit with retro glasses and no bra in sight. Stewart may be committed to wearing high fashion, but she always mixes it with her signature edge.
And honestly, who better to rep Chanel at this year’s Met Gala? The theme was “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty,” a celebration of the life and work of the designer who served as the French fashion house’s creative director from 1983 until his death. The actor stayed on theme with a black-and-white jacket, black trousers, a bolero, loafers, and a logo belt—all Chanel.
Her stylist Tara Swennen told that the look is from the brand’s 2016–2017 cruise collection. “Kristen is doing a nod to him personally, but this is not about imitating Karl,” Swennen said. “The overall look has more of a zoot suit vibe about it, and Kristen was really drawn to that. It’s more about leaning into an androgynous look, while it also harkens to the way it went down the runway. But overall the look feels very Kristen.”
Sounds simple enough—but not when you factor in the actor’s beauty look. K.Stew opted for a spiky, tousled mullet for her hair and went nearly makeup-free on her face. That is, aside from her filled-in brows, which further amplified the androgynous look.
The Twilight actor certainly knows how to turn out a look on the Met Gala red carpet. She skipped last year’s event, but in 2021 she showed up in a bouncy—and blonde!—ponytail with ’50s pinup bangs that matched her rockabilly blouse and pants (both Chanel, naturally). At the 2019 Met Gala, which was themed “Camp: Notes on Fashion,” the actor paired her Chanel sequined look with bleached brows and a peach-dyed pixie cut.
Though Kristen Stewart has several projects slated to kick off this year, the most important of all will be her marriage to fiancé Dylan Meyer—well, maybe. The actor hasn’t shared any official date yet, but in a 2021 appearance on , she did talk about their surprise engagement and wedding plans. “We’re marrying, we’re totally gonna do it,” she said. “I wanted to be proposed to, so I think I very distinctly carved out what I wanted and she nailed it. We’re marrying, it’s happening.”

The couple first began dating in 2019 following Stewart’s on-and-off relationship with model Stella Maxwell in 2018. Meyer is a screenwriter, most notably of the 2021 coming-of-age film Moxie, and the daughter of Oscar-nominated writer Nicholas Meyer. And even though no official plans have been made, Stewart seems ready. “I want to have a big party or something,” she said on . “I’m so unceremonial. We might just go do it this weekend or something.” It might be a while or it might be really soon until the wedding happens. For now, we’re just eating up her Met Gala style.
