Just in case you forgot that Selena Gomez also starred in Hulu’s Only Murders In the Building this year—in addition to her buzzy documentary series—her pitch-perfect look at the 2023 Golden Globes should be enough to remind you. A first-time nominee at the event, Gomez selected a black Valentino gown with rich purple statement sleeves for the special occasion. An expert in the field of wearable elegance, Gomez balanced out the dramatic look with De Beers platinum diamond jewelry and a high ponytail.
After being snubbed by the Emmys, much to the chagrin of her legions of die-hard fans, Gomez’s performance Only Murders was nominated in the best actress in a television series category at the Globes. Unsurprisingly, Gomez’s costars Steve Martin and Martin Short were also nominated for Golden Globe awards for their work in the series.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Gomez admitted that it’s been a struggle to be seen as a mature actor rather than a Disney star. “I felt like it was very difficult for people to take me seriously,” she said. “I have slowly pushed through that, and I’m really glad, but it was very frustrating. I felt like a joke, you know?”
I’d say a Golden Globe nomination is a pretty good indication that folks have started to take Selena Gomez more seriously as an actor.
