Like many others across this occasionally great nation of ours, Melissa Joan Hart posted to Instagram on the Fourth of July. In her photos, the actor is wearing the same patriotic “eagle dress” that she wears every year to celebrate the holiday. If you’re wondering why Hart digs out this 20-year-old red T-shirt dress with a picture of an eagle spreading its wings across the chest every year—she has an answer in the caption.

“The eagle dress has landed,” Hart’s caption began. She then explained the history of the dress that “has decorated my always changing shape for 21 years now.” Hart first bought the dress in Melbourne, Australia, in 2000, and wore it for an appearance on The Late Show With Jay Leno after 9/11 when, she says, she dressed in red, white, and blue for most of the year. “It became a July 4th staple in my Tahoe closet in about 2008 and I have since worn it every year,” she wrote in the caption (except 2019, when she was on the East Coast).
As evidence, Hart also included in the post several photos of herself in the laid-back jersey-knit number over the years. She wore it to the beach, on a boat, while pregnant, with kids, and with various other patriotic accessories including a distressing number of trucker hats.
Melissa Joan Hart then followed up the original post with a second “eagle dress” photo, explaining that the first picture did not show the full thing. “Sorry about my last post where I seem to have cut off the eagle which is the most important part of the dress!”

It’s hard out here to be an American sometimes, so I’m glad Sabrina the Teenage Witch is enjoying her Independence Day traditions. Plus, I can’t be mad at any celebrity who is willing to dig out the same 22-year-old outfit every year.
