ASOS signs major shareholder as non-exec director
Global digital fashion retailer ASOS has appointed a key shareholder, who’s also a “strong supporter of the company”, to its board.
William Barker is the founder and CEO of California-based investment management company Camelot Capital Partners, which holds 14.02% of the ASOS issued share capital. Given his status, he also joins as a Non-Independent Director.
He is also the Executive Chairman of Tapi Carpets & Floors, Executive Chairman of Synnovia, a UK manufacturing conglomerate and is a founding investor and board member of Re:Build Manufacturing. Previously Barker was an advisor to Tony Hsieh, the founder of Zappos
ASOS Chairman Jørgen Lindemann said: “[We have] a long-standing relationship with William as shareholder and strong supporter of the company, and I am delighted that William has now agreed to join the board. He brings a wealth of retail and commercial experience alongside a deep knowledge and understanding of the ASOS business. We look forward to working closely with him as the business continues on its journey to sustainable, profitable growth.”
Baker will join another new non-executive director with Anna Maria Rugarli having recently become Chair of its ESG Committee. Rugarli has more than 20 years’ experience working with leaders in global apparel, including NikePrada
