For celebrities like Jennifer Lawrence who want to be perceived as fashionable this fall, there are two popular options: dress in head-to-toe The Row or wear “a pop of red.” It helps, too, if the outfit involves a ballet slipper or some kind of unusual flat.
This is something Lawrence (and her stylist Jamie Mizrahi) know all too well. Last night for a date with her husband, Cooke Maroney, the actor wore a scarlet-hued off-the-shoulder knit sweater with high-waist jeans and a pair of velveteen ballet flats (view her look here).
With her look, Lawrence veered perilously close to the aesthetic of 2013, something we regret to inform you is coming back. You know, the era when celebrities like Taylor Swift and Alexa Chung wear kitty-faced flats on the red carpet.
But Lawrence’s outfit was less adorkable, and just a little more glamorous than back then. Partly because she assembled the look with a lopsided Aupen bag and a tennis necklace and a Tiffany & Co. x Elsa Peretti wrist cuff.
But also because the sweater exposed a cross-section of her braless torso.
It’s all about “caring enough without caring too much,” as Mizrahi told Vogue. “Cool, classic and elegant.”
