She may not have taken home the Emmy, but Sydney Sweeney was still able to celebrate her 25th birthday on September 12 by wearing two designer gowns in the company of dozens of A-list celebrities, and that’s leagues better than blacking out at a dive bar, which is how most 20-somethings make out.
After hitting the Emmys red carpet in an embroidered white Oscar de la Renta gown with a bustle that was more Bridgerton than Euphoria, the actor did a style one-eighty for HBO Max’s Emmys after party, changing into a seaweed green gown with long latex sleeves, ruching details over the bust, and two asymmetrical cutouts across the front.
The star’s shoulder-skimming lob was styled with the ends curled under, giving a kind of ’60s siren look. Adding to the glamazon vibes were a smokey and exaggerated cat eye, a muted matte lip, and dangly circular statement earrings. Clearly, Sydney Sweeney has the range.
Though she didn’t take home either of the awards she was nominated for—best supporting actress in both a limited series (The White Lotus) and drama series (Euphoria)—the 25-year-old was on hand to support her Euphoria costar Zendaya as she took home her second lead actress win for her role as Rue.
Sweeney’s onscreen sister Maude Apatow also attended the HBO party, a style foil to Sweeney in a white, single-shoulder corseted gown with draping details across the neckline.
From Miu Miu miniskirts and super-cropped polos to Audrey Hepburn-esque gowns and vintage ’80s velvet, Sweeney has made it clear that she’s not afraid to take style risks. And for that I’ve never, ever been happier.
