**Augusta, GA (WJBF)** – The Georgia State Patrol seized more than 55 gallons of suspected marijuana from a vehicle at an I-20 checkpoint Sunday morning.
According to the preliminary report, at approximately 9:30 AM, Troopers stopped a Chevrolet Tahoe at the westbound I-20 checkpoint on mile marker 194. During the stop, the Trooper smelled the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle.
The driver, Lemarcus Deshawn Carey, 33, of Mobile, Alabama, was asked to step out of the vehicle.
Troopers searched the vehicle and found seven black metal buckets containing 55 gallons of suspected marijuana.
Carey was arrested and charged with Trafficking Marijuana. He was taken to the Columbia County Detention Center.
The suspected marijuana has an estimated street value of $220,000.
The Georgia State Patrol reminds motorists that the possession of marijuana is against the law in Georgia. Drivers who are caught with marijuana may face charges and fines.
