GREENSBORO, N.C. — As an inquisitive 12-year-old growing up in the Triad, Olivia Ridenhour spent hours lost in her own creative world, drawing everything and anything she saw around her. She would create worlds and characters with vivid imaginations. For Olivia, art was a means to express herself, a language she could use to communicate her thoughts and feelings.
Ten years later, Olivia now excels not only as an artist but also as an accomplished musician. She is a senior at Greensboro Day School and is one of the most distinguished artists and musicians in her class. Olivia has taken every art class offered at her school, and her artwork has been recognized numerous times by local and national competitions. She has received awards in the categories of painting, drawing, photography, and digital art.
Olivia’s artistic talents extend beyond visual arts. She is also an accomplished flutist and pianist who has performed at Carnegie Hall. She is a member of the Greensboro Youth Orchestra, the Guilford County Honor Band, and the Greensboro Day School Wind Ensemble. She has been an active member of the drama program at Greensboro Day School as well, having performed in numerous theatrical productions and serving as the Lighting Director for two GDS theatre productions.
For Olivia, art is not just about creating beautiful things; it’s about expressing herself and communicating with others. She believes that art can make a difference in the world. With her passion, talent, and dedication to her craft, Olivia has become one of the most promising young artists and musicians in the Triad. She is a true embodiment of the Greensboro Day School mission, to empower students to be creative and engaged citizens of the world.
Olivia’s father, Michael Ridenhour, attributed his daughter’s early exposure to art to her inquisitive nature and her love of learning.
