N.Y. police fatally shoot armed man who shot girlfriend during argument

NEW YORK — New York City police fatally shot an armed man who shot his girlfriend during an argument in the Bronx early Friday, authorities said.

Officers responded to a 911 call about a domestic dispute at an apartment building on East 184th Street just before 2 a.m., the New York Police Department said in a statement.

When officers arrived, they found a 26-year-old woman with a gunshot wound to the chest, police said. She was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition.

The officers then encountered a 36-year-old man, identified as the woman’s boyfriend, who was armed with a gun, police said. The man refused to drop the weapon and pointed it at the officers, prompting them to fire multiple shots, striking him in the chest and leg, police said.

The man was taken to a nearby hospital where he later died, police said.

The woman is expected to survive, police said.

No officers were injured in the incident, police said.
