6 Outfits To Wear on Thanksgiving With Pieces You Already Own

Is it just me, or did Thanksgiving creep up on us this year? For some reason, Halloween took eons to finally arrive, but with Thanksgiving rapidly approaching I can’t help but feel a little rushed into the holiday—which means my Thanksgiving outfit plan has unfortunately been put on the back-burner.

While the idea of coming together with loved ones and great food is always welcomed in my eyes, the next thought in my brain is that it’s too late to order the dress I bookmarked over the summer that I told myself would be “great to wear on Thanksgiving!” However, there’s nothing to fret, as there’s always something in my closet that can be thrown together for a classic Thanksgiving look.

What makes a perfect Thanksgiving outfit? There’s obviously no set formula, but one thing’s for sure: comfort is key. If that’s leggings and a tee, so be it, if that’s a silk midi dress and heels, go for it! However, if you’re itching to put together a cool-cousin outfit this year, we’ve gathered all the inspo for looks to create with pieces you already own.

A denim skirt and chunky sweater

Long or short, a denim skirt will always be your friend. As versatile as a pair of jeans but with a little more pizazz, a denim skirt is a great bet for your Thanksgiving dinner look. Paired with a cozy sweater that screams fall, you’re good to go.

A leather blazer and white tee

Step aside orange suede skirt, Thanksgiving outfits have a new it-piece: the leather blazer. Pair yours with a relaxed pair of trousers (we nix anything too tight on the big day) and a white tee for a “I just threw this on” look that’ll impress everyone at the table—even your grandma.

A slip skirt and denim jacket

Whether it be in the summer with a racerback tank and sandals or in the fall with your fave pair of boots and a jacket thrown on top, a slip skirt is a year-round staple. They’re a foolproof piece, and are comfy enough to wear a pair of tights or biker shorts under, which makes it a win-win for Thanksgiving dinner.

Wide-leg pants and a sweater

Give your trousers a moment at the dinner table this year and pair them with a simple long-sleeve or fitted sweater. Dress them up or down depending on how formal your dinner is with the shoes you choose. Opt for heels or boots for a fancier occasion, or sneakers for one where you’ll mostly be drinking wine in the basement with your cousins.

A cable knit sweater and jeans

We’re taking some fashion inspiration from Chris Evans and Rory Gilmore this year and pulling out or fave cable knit sweaters. Something about a cable knit just feels festive in its own right, and is the perfect base to be paired with jeans for a casual Turkey Day ‘fit.

Leather pants and a white button-up

Leather pants arguably have a place at any dinner setting, but really have a time to shine on Thanksgiving. With a button-up of your choice, the outfit is simple, cool, and elegant—three things you definitely want to bring to the holiday.
