Chloe Fineman just showed up to the MTV Video Music Awards in a blanket. It’s a vibe if I’ve ever seen one.
The Saturday Night Live comedian wore a ThreeAsFour silver and chrome padded dress to (sleep?) walk the VMAs 2022 black carpet at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. Fineman, who is known for her Anna Delvey impression on the late night comedy sketch show, elevated her ’fit with chrome nails, holographic sandals, and a soft “I just rolled out of bed” glam. Truly, she woke up like this.
While a few people on the internet have compared the look to a sleeping bag or Lizzie McGuire’s igloo dress from the Disney Channel original movie, Fineman’s fit is probably an homage to the moon man, the award ceremony’s trophy mascot.
The pretentious fashion writer in me is trying to interpret her cushion couture as some sort of sociopolitical statement: Maybe she’s emphasizing how long it takes to get from New York City to New Jersey on the PATH train? Or how exhausting it is to be hot and funny and a woman at the same time?
See Chloe Fineman’s full nap-time-approved gown, below.
One of the first upsets of the night? The fact that she’s not wearing a wig. Fineman previously told she owns over a 100 wigs—each in a different color, cut, and style to match her SNL characters and celebrity impersonations.
