Kylie Jenner loves herself some archival vintage. Remember this summer when she emerged in that super rare Comme des Garçons hand top from 2007? On November 7, at the 2022 CFDA Awards in New York City, the beauty mogul and reality star only continued her love of throwback style—this time by unearthing a striking vintage gown from the ’90s. To be more specific, it’s a runway dress from an iconic French designer’s fall 1999 collection. Can you guess whose?
Per Jenner’s stylist Mackenzie Grandquist, the star’s semisheer, pleated one-shoulder gown is from Thierry Mugler’s fall 1999 collection—complete with a matching sleeve and a high-slit black skirt. That architectural, waist-cinching silhouette was one of Mugler’s signatures throughout the ’90s and beyond, and it still feels extremely current on Jenner today.
As someone who’s constantly gravitating towards more body-con silhouettes, Jenner looks right at home. She wore it just as it originally appeared on the catwalk, though she removed the giant diamond necklace to let the unique neckline shine. And by rocking the 20-year-old style in 2022, she proved that a good, well-cut design will continue to live on and take breaths away, no matter which decade it’s in.
