Dakota Johnson just gave the ’70s pantsuit a sexy update at the South by Southwest Film Festival.
On March 18, Johnson attended the SXSW premiere of her new film Cha Cha Real Smooth, in which she plays a single mom who falls for a rudderless bar mitzvah party host. She hit up the step-and-repeat wearing head-to-toe Gucci, pairing a groovy linen pantsuit with a sheer nude corset patterned with the brand’s logo. Showing off her thick straight bangs, she wore the rest of her hair pulled back. As for makeup, she kept things in the brown family with a smoky eye and bronze contour.
And here’s another look at the corset, which shows off the boning:
Johnson is a big fan of the see-through aesthetic and a good pantsuit—as you can see from this roundup of her best looks from 2021—but this may be the first time she’s combined the two. However, it’s not the first time the 50 Shades of Grey star has worn a sheer corset on a red carpet. In September 2021 Johnson wore a black lace Gucci corset and leather pants to the premiere of The Lost Daughter at the New York Film Festival in NYC.
If there’s one thing to say about Dakota Johnson that’s unrelated to her impeccable style, it’s that she remains booked and busy. On February 3, Deadline reported that the 32-year-old is in talks to join the as the lead in Sony’s upcoming Madame Web movie.
“Following the massive success of Spider-Man: No Way Home, Sony is looking to expand on its universe of Marvel characters,” the publication said, noting that the film would mark the studio’s first modern comic book adaptation to feature a woman in the titular role. Although sources have likened her powers to Dr. Strange’s, they also said that the project may develop into “something else,” given that the story of Madame Web typically features an elderly woman with a severe medical condition that “never actively fought any villains.”
On March 16, the project got even more exciting when Deadline reported that Euphoria star Sydney Sweeney would be joining the cast. While most of the details are still under wraps, one thing is certain: The press tour looks are going to be fire.
