The color of the season—hot pink!—was cemented by Pierpaolo Piccioli, who dedicated virtually his entire autumn-winter 2022 show for Valentino to the retina-searing shade. Piccioli pink has been sweeping red carpets ever since, but Chanel muse Penélope Cruz just made the case for Virginie Viard’s take on the shade.
Cruz attended Chanel’s dinner at the Tribeca Festival wearing look 65 from Viard’s autumn-winter 2022 collection: a billowing, bubblegum pink maxi decorated with a grid pattern and the iconic double-C monogram, with buttoned thick straps. Penélope’s skirt swept the floor, just as it did on the runway, creating a pool of fabric at the hemline.
Penélope Cruz skipped the byzantine cross that model Victoria Fawole wore on the catwalk, and instead accessorized with simple embellished hoop earrings. As a Chanel ambassador, the star has her pick of the season’s best accessories, and selected a sweet pink vanity case to carry for the occasion.
Wearing hot pink is a bold move, but as Penélope (typically a lover of Parisian black and white), proves, it can exude subtle elegance. Our advice? Opt for silhouettes that you already know and trust and keep jewelry and accessories to a minimum to ensure the statement color speaks for itself.
