Rihanna is redefining the little black dress.
On April 18, for a date night with ASAP Rocky, the reigning queen of pregnancy style stepped out in Barbados wearing a black Dundas minidress with an exposed bra attachment and barely there straps across her baby bump and one thigh. The Fenty Beauty mogul paired the daring look with gold hoops, strappy sandals, and a black Dior saddlebag.
“When I found out I was pregnant, I thought to myself, There’s no way I’m going to go shopping in no maternity aisle,” Rihanna recently told Vogue. “I’m sorry—it’s too much fun to get dressed up. I’m not going to let that part disappear because my body is changing.”
Her most recent bump-bearing look is just the kind of ensemble she wants other pregnant women to feel comfortable embracing (though, maybe not this exact $1,450 Dundas minidress). “I’m hoping that we were able to redefine what’s considered ‘decent’ for pregnant women,” Rihanna continued. “My body is doing incredible things right now, and I’m not going to be ashamed of that. This time should feel celebratory. Because why should you be hiding your pregnancy?” You can see the photos here.
Prior to Rihanna’s trip to the Caribbean with the father of her future child, unsubstantiated rumors that ASAP Rocky was cheating with shoe designer Amina Muaddi started festering on Twitter. Though sources told TMZ that the rumors were “1 million percent not true,” they gained enough traction for Muaddi to address them on Instagram Stories.
“I’ve always believed that an unfounded lie spread on social media doesn’t deserve any response or clarification, especially one that is so vile,” Muaddi wrote on April 15, per Elle. “I initially assumed that this fake gossip—fabricated with such malicious intent—would not be taken seriously. However, in the last 24 [hours] I’ve been reminded that we live in a society that is so quick to speak on topics regardless of factual basis and that nothing is off limits.”
She continued, “Not even during what should be one of the most beautiful and celebrated times in one’s life. Therefore I have to speak up as this is not only directed towards me but it is related to people I have a great amount of respect and affection for. While Rih is continuing to live her serene, best dressed pregnancy life and I go back to my business—I wish everyone a beautiful Easter weekend!”
With that in mind, can we all focus on what really matters: How is Rihanna going to top this look?
