One woman’s most-special-day-ever gown is another’s night-on-the-town-with-the-hubs dress. Amal Clooney, the human rights lawyer who deigns to share her life with the star of the Batman movie everyone hates, stepped out for date night in Italy in a white ankle-length dress a mere mortal might have worn down the aisle.
In the picture, which you can see here, Clooney wears her hair in a voluminous blowout and accessorizes with earrings and a clutch purse, no gaudy jewels necessary. Her slip dress is formfitting with a slit, but soft and gauzy enough that it reads more “heavenly angel” than “Victoria’s Secret angel.” And while the more traditional brides probably wouldn’t consider it bridalcore in the least (FWIW, Amal herself wore a “gown” gown to wed George), it’s every bit as wedding-y as the dress Emma Stone wore to her nuptials, for instance!
(Stone rewore her wedding dress, from 2021, to the next year’s Met Gala; I’m not trying to trick you into thinking this is a picture from her wedding.)
Mr. Clooney, meanwhile, opted for a charcoal gray suit over a black button-down, no tie. Very Dolce Vita. People reports that the pair dined at the Grand Hotel Tremezzo overlooking Lake Como in Italy, where they live (in the area, not at the hotel). I know that’s not where the second season of The White Lotus was filmed, but I’m still picturing the second season of The White Lotus.
George and Amal never miss an opportunity to show off (in a nonobnoxious way) just how ridiculously good-looking they are. The parents of twins, Ella and Alexander, they go full James Bond when they make an appearance: him in a tux, her styled like a bombshell.

At work and for daytime events, Amal Clooney makes a strong case for the upscale jumpsuit.
Okay, but here’s my question: You’re going out for dinner in Italy. That means sauces. You’re wearing a white dress. That means stains. I guess it’s less of a question and more of a concern.
