Margot Robbie’s Barbie press tour style streak continues. For the world premiere of Barbie at Shrine Auditorium and Expo Hall in Los Angeles on Sunday, July 9, the Oscar nominee wore her best human version of an iconic Barbie doll look to date.
The 33-year-old hit the red carpet in a custom Schiaparelli dress that is an exact replica of Solo in the Spotlight Barbie’s look from 1960.
Robbie’s strapless bustier dress is covered in black sequins and fits close to the body. At the hem, which falls just above the ankles, a black tulle tutu flares out, creating a mermaid silhouette. A single red rose appears in the tulle. Just like Solo in the Spotlight Barbie, Robbie wore black opera gloves that extend to her elbows, a silver diamond choker necklace, black peep-toe heels, and a pink handkerchief. She wore her hair in an updo similar to her inspiration—a glamorous high ponytail that was perfectly curled, with a face-framing piece swept to one side. For makeup, Robbie opted for a bold red lip.
Schiaparelli posted a behind-the-scenes video of the Barbie Couture look on its Instagram grid, documenting the creation of the look from sketch to finished product.

According to Barbie Wiki, the Solo in the Night Barbie doll “exuded pure glamour! Her skin-tight glitter knit black formal moved into a frill of tulle at the hem with a single red satin rose accent. A four-strand crystal bead necklace, long black tricot gloves, black open-toe pumps, a pink chiffon scarf, and silvery microphone stand completed this sophisticated nightclub singer’s ensemble.”
Margot Robbie’s human versions of iconic Barbie outfits have defined the Barbie press tour, and each look has been made by different designers, from Chanel to Moschino to Schiaparelli. Barbie comes to theaters July 21, so we can expect a lot more looks to come. Personally, I am waiting for Robbie’s version of Holiday Barbie, 1990.
