One of the biggest transfer deals of the new football season deserves a major product sponsorship deal to go with it. Striker Harry Kane, who has moved from Tottenham to Bayern Munich in a £86 million-plus deal (the most expensive transfer in Bundesliga history) has signed a boot deal with Skechers

It neatly coincides with the launch of the American multinational’s debut into the football boot arena with the launch of its SKX_01 model boot.

And it’s not just any tie-up. It’s a “lifetime partnership” with the US footwear giant for an undisclosed sum as it joins the likes of Castore as a disruptor in a sportswear sector dominated by AdidasNikePuma

Revealing that its first boot will be “ground-breaking with innovative technology”, it marks Kane’s move from wearing Nike boots. For his Bundesliga game against Werder Bremen on Friday, the striker will uniquely be wearing the new Skechers boot.

In his decision, he explained to his 15 million Instagram

“I was blown away by them, I was blown away by the boots and I was really excited to be part of the team, so it’s a new chapter for my boots going forward and I’m excited to see what it brings.”

Skechers will begin sell the boot in September across Europe and the UK, with Kane set to appear in marketing campaigns to promote the shoe. It will be sold online and in select retail store locations.

Its entry into football is timely given the US will be co-hosting the men’s World Cup

In July, Skechers announced second-quarter sales of $2.01 billion, a year-on-year increase of 7.7% for the global footwear brand.
