I’ve gotten so used to Kate Middleton’s colorful power suits lately that I was genuinely shocked to see her in this oatmeal-colored sweater skirt set (which looks amazing, by the way) on October 11. The monochromatic knitwear look sure seems like a return to her usual style, but does this mean the princess’s office-attire era is already kaput?
For day two of her World Mental Health Day tour, the Princess of Wales wore a matching pullover sweater and midiskirt, which she accessorized with color-matched cream pumps and a small handle bag. She finished the ensemble with statement pearl earrings and her signature long waves. Classic Kate.
The princess wore the cozy-sophisticated ’fit to visit Nottingham Trent University and nearby Nottingham University, per , to discuss mental health and well-being with students. (Coincidentally: Stateside, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry also visited a higher education institution, The Marcy Lab School in Brooklyn, according to .)
There was a time not so long ago when it would have been major to see Kate Middleton wear anything but a skirt. It’s fairly well-known that the late Queen Elizabeth preferred the women of the royal family to wear skirts rather than pants, so perhaps it’s not a coincidence that Kate’s power suit moment only arrived once the queen was no longer with us.
I can’t speak for Kate Middleton or her stylist, obviously, but I have to wonder if this return to form means the suits thing was just a phase of light fashion rebellion. Either way, I’ll keep everyone posted.
