Amanda Seyfried channeled ’90s teen icon Cher Horowitz during her Good Morning America appearance on May 30, while simultaneously cementing her status as the queen of shorts suits. The 37-year-old stepped out in a Smythe two-piece set in the same shade of yellow as Cher’s most iconic ’fit. If you told me that she just stepped off the set of a Clueless reboot, I’d believe you.
With the summer heat rolling in, the Mamma Mia! actor swapped out dress pants for plaid tailored shorts with a midthigh cut. A matching blazer, held together with a single mahogany-colored button and tapered at the waist, gives the sort of boxy silhouette a more defined shape. Her oversized sunnies and patent leather stilettos were complementary shades of black. Seyfried’s gold locks were tousled in effortless waves, and she opted for a soft, neutral makeup palette.
The actor is currently promoting her latest AppleTV+ thriller, The Crowded Room. Inspired by real-life events, the miniseries follows a man (played by Tom Holland) arrested for a crime he may or may not have committed; Seyfried plays the dutiful detective trying to crack the case. “I can’t wait for people to kind of get the puzzle pieces every episode through my character,” she shared. “It’s a kind of a show, as an audience member, I wanna see.”
Coincidentally, Seyfried’s GMA appearance fell on the same day that Theranos founder, Elizabeth Holmes, began her 11-year prison sentence. Seyfried famously portrayed Holmes in the Hulu miniseries The Dropout, for which she won an Emmy for outstanding lead actress. “Those two kids are hanging in the balance,” she mentioned, referring to Holmes’s two children, during her GMA interview. “As a parent, as a mom, I’m just like, life’s not fair, but in a lot of ways, it’s fair for her.”
The Crowded Room premieres on June 9 and can be streamed on Apple TV+.
