The BAFTA TV Awards was a family affair for Kate Winslet and her daughter, Mia Threapleton. The pair, who both star in Channel 4’s emotional drama I Am Ruth, posed on the red carpet together ahead of the ceremony, Kate in a one-shoulder black dress, and Mia in a two-tone halterneck jumpsuit.
The 22-year-old rising talent looked the spitting image of her famous mother—she channelled the pared-back style she has made her signature on the red carpet throughout her career, and they sported similar hairstyles.
Kate scooped the leading actress trophy for her rousing performance in I Am Ruth, which explores mental health crises among teenagers in relation to social media, while the Dominic Savage–directed film won the single-drama category. The entire cast took to the stage at the Royal Festival Hall to collect the award, and Kate delivered a heartfelt speech in which she said, “If I could break it in half, I would give the other half to my daughter. We did this together, kiddo.”
“It was a really special experience…as a mother and daughter. I was given new things to respect and admire about my own child,” Kate Winslet previously told British of acting alongside her real-life first-born. “I wanted to cover areas of motherhood and being a mother that can sometimes be incredibly challenging and lonely.” The actor also revealed that “everything” was improvised: “There was no script.… Every single word that came out of our mouths, we made up on the day.”
