If you’ve seen Barbie, you know that to wear Birkenstocks is to embrace comfort in a world that tries to use femininity to confine and oppress you. Sandra Bullock knows this lesson well, and chose the classic sandals for a day out. (Maybe including a visit to the gynecologist? I love that line so much.)
Her Birks are perhaps an unexpected choice to pair with a billowy floral dress, but it all kind of works in a very farmers market way. Then again, Bullock has rarely gone for the obvious shoe. At the Lost City premiere, she wore a sparkly ombré pink gown with thigh-high leather boots. She is an OG pioneer of TikTok’s viral “wrong shoe theory,” a true trailblazer.
For this LA outing, the Practical Magic star accessorized with a Loewe handbag, a handful of bracelets, round sunglasses…and a vase full of flowers. All the hot girls are carrying flowers this summer, it’s Flower Power Summer, #vasecore #stemsarein.
Sandra Bullock, who just turned 59, was ahead of the story when it came to the SAG-AFTRA strike; she’s been on a hiatus from work for a year! Last June she revealed that she was taking a break to focus on her two kids, telling The Hollywood Reporter, “I don’t want to be beholden to anyone’s schedule other than my own…. I’m so burnt out. I’m so tired, and I’m so not capable of making healthy, smart decisions, and I know it.”
She added, “Work has always been steady for me, and I’ve been so lucky. I realized it possibly was becoming my crutch. It was like opening up a fridge all the time and looking for something that was never in the fridge. I said to myself, ‘Stop looking for it here because it doesn’t exist here. You already have it; establish it, find it, and be okay not having work to validate you.’” We simply love a workaholic with self-awareness and insight!
Enjoy your well-deserved time off, Sandy, and if you never wanna go back to high heels, know that you are still Kenough.
